Join me in my postpartum weight loss journey!

I will still be posting on here from time to time but my main focus right now is to get my strength, energy, and fitness back.  Usually when I get fixated on something I blog alot about it, ha ha!  Since losing weight and becoming fit takes quite a bit of focus, I will be blogging often over at my other blog - I welcome your support and comments! =)

Living life, doing well...

I am often so amazed at how quickly time goes by! It's already been 12 days since I last posted, my gosh.

In general I am finding that just about every week things get better. We are more settled into a nice routine with Charlie, who is getting close to 3 months old now!  He is the most adorable thing ever, and laughs out loud for no reason, like when I'm changing him he just looks at me just....WAITING...almost daring me, to do something, anything, that he can giggle about. It's so cute, I am falling in love with him more and more every day.  What a sweet little precious bundle of joy.

Weight loss wise, my goal is to lose 10 pounds in February.  I am teetering on the edge of losing 6 pounds so far, with 7 days to go! I am confident I can do it, coming up on 3 weeks of trying my darndest!  I haven't been super hardcore about it but just going with the flow as life happens.  I've incorporated several friends with me, who text and remind me to keep on going.  I love having friends who are also working hard to get into shape and text me to say they just finished a workout, or just finished drinking a gallon of water (our little challenge to each other).

This weekend I was able to go to the youth conference for our church - the age limit is 35, so when you turn 36 then you can no longer go.  I turn in Nov so I am relishing the time with the young people who inspire me so much.  Sometimes I look at them and just marvel that they are being faithful in this day and age, especially in the area of keeping themselves pure.  I think if they can not give in to youthful lusts in their school, work, etc areas - them my goodness, I certainly can be faithful where I am at in my home!

It was the loveliest of weekends, I had my own room in the quiet dorm (reserved mostly for older youth) and brought along our handy white noise maker.  I brought Charlie's bed that he sleeps in, and together we just kind of hung out in our room at night and in the mornings while I nursed him or put him down to sleep.  He was really sweet, until Sunday morning when he just kind of flipped out from the lack of schedule.  I enjoyed the quiet and not being woken up multiple times at night from other kiddos in addition to the normal 2-3 feedings per night for Charlie.

It was also very encouraging for me to be there!  We heard about the importance of using God's word as a mirror to see what my reflection is, and not putting such importance on our physical reflection in the mirror, as all of that is passing away.

Tereza, do you think you'll ever be able to come to a youth conf?  It sure was neat to see your kids as always, and especially good to hear Rebecca on Sunday. I hope to see you at the sister's conf!  I am going to attempt it again with Charlie, but am not too sure how it'll go if they put me in a cabin or room with other people.  It's just pretty stressful trying to keep him quiet and/or from waking up from others' noises.  I always have the option of staying at home though, so I will definitely be there and can't wait!

I better sign off now and go take a nap if I am going to get any sleep - just 45 minutes until we have to bundle up and head out to pick up the kids.  Charlie & Harmony2 are soundly sleeping and I'm about to put Jack4 down as well. Hopefully Marie5 will continue to watch her movie quietly.

For the love of humongous salads...! and my schedule each day

I have officially, for the past 7 days, been working hard to eat healthy and exercise. It feels so wonderful to finally be back on track and really doing it for a good long stretch instead of one day off, then the next day driving to the store JUST TO GET a bunch of chocolate and eat my cares away. =)

And, I've lost 6 pounds! And 1/2" on my waist...very cool since my waist is obviously one of the hardest hit areas after having a baby.  My goal is to lose 10 pounds by March 1st, a very conservative goal, I think!

I think salads are totally delicious.  And my absolute favorite salad to make at home happens to be 99% raw vegan - yay! That means no preservatives, nothing cooked or dairy or meat or anything, nothing canned.

Today my salad was so big that I got completely stuffed before I could finish it, and I tried something new that was really yummy but still low calorie and vegetarian.  It is ~ feta cheese! I've never tried it before on my salad here at home, but I've had it other places and usually they DROWN the salad in it, yuck.  Just wayyy too much.

Today my salad entailed:

shredded iceburg lettuce
spinach
feta cheese
onions
shredded carrots
raw sunflower seeds
raisins
shredded cabbage
nutritional yeast
avocado
...and then my tried & true homemade dressing of equal parts honey/balsamic vinegar/olive oil

It only takes like 3-4 minutes to whip it up when you use already cut lettuce - and it sure tastes DELICIOUS with the Feta! Love it!  I always would love to try roasted hazelnuts instead of sunflower seeds.

Makes it easy to eat low calorie when you're filling up on veggies. =)

It's been a challenge trying to fit in time for my painting project which is quite enormous...but I do it little by little.  My day goes like this:

Go to bed at 10pm.  Wake up at 11pm/3am/6am to feed Charlie.

7am - get kids clothes ready for school
7:20 - get everyone up & ready for school (majorly busy, I am like a spinning top!)
8:15 - leave & drop 5 kids off at 2 schools
8:45 - arrive home, nurse Charlie
9:20  - put Charlie to bed, movie on for the littles, start weights workout
10:30 - finish workout, dash to the shower
10:45 - Tidy up quickly so it's not a disaster when I come home
11:10 - pick up Marie from school
11:30 - Arrive home, quickly make lunch
11:45 - nurse Charlie who is most likely crying at this point
12:15 - tidy house, plan for dinner, try to keep Charlie awake so we can all nap together
12:45 - put Harmony & Charlie to bed so I can make & eat my first meal of the day (!!) in peace
1:00 - 2:00 quiet time, this is my extra "free" time just for a little tiny bit to enjoy my lunch while watching a show, surfing blogs, whatever.  This is when I "could" be painting. =)
3:00 - alarm goes off, jump out of bed - get the kids out to the car.
3:15 - leave to get the big kids from school
3:30 - arrive home and nurse Charlie
4:00 - make dinner, supervise cleanup, maybe do a teeny bit of blogging IF the kids are not fighting about something and need me. =) Like right now. =)
6:00 - 8:00 - eat dinner, nurse Charlie, supervise cleanup, homework, baths, prayer b4 bed, jammies, etc
8:00-9:00 - Make lunches for tomorrow, nurse Charlie & put to bed, constantly tell the kids to be quiet in their rooms and stop coming out for the millionth time; this is actually an exhausting time for me, as I am longing for some peace and quiet before I have to go to bed...
9:00-10:00 - Watch a show with DH or DD, tidy up for the next day, and this is usually the time I would have to paint. But I'm so tired by now.....

10:00 - Off to bed I go! Sometimes I just stay up until 11pm for the next feeding, or I'll wake him up to feed him, but I'm always *hoping* he'll sleep longer so I hate to encourage anymore waking up than he already does!

Anyway, I know it'll probably change a little when Charlie doesn't nurse for 35 min each time, but I wanted to document my schedule for future reading purposes - it's always fun to look back and see how things have changed.

Some fun pictures

What can I say...Charlie is very loved in our home. =)
