Just wanted to post real quick, my "beginning weight stats" for summer camp, since we're leaving today and I won't be weighing in on Monday when Week 18 starts. I won't have a scale the ENTIRE time - OMG scary! LOL. It won't be scary if I stick 100% to raw, which I plan to do. I just have to REMEMBER how crappy it makes me feel, and know that I can't keep up with the kids if I eat any cooked. I'll be in a bad mood and won't be able to handle their little needs.
Week 1: 134
Week 2: 133
Week 3: 138 (this was my 3-day binge in Arizona!)
Week 10: 141
Week 14: 143
Week 15: 145 (this is the max I wanted to be by week 18)
Week 17: 146
Week 18: 146
Welcome to a little glimpse into my world! I love my job of being a Mommy to eight blessings ages 14 & under who are soooo precious. And lots of fun! My youngest is now almost 2 years old, and it is my goal each day to exercise & eat as healthy as possible so I can feel alive and have FUN with my children! Join me in my journey to become more like the Proverbs 31 woman, and my celebration of this wonderful life God has given me, one day at a time!

Week 17: Day 4
I did it! Or at least, I think I might do it. My goal is to be 145 by Summer Camp, and I weighed in this morning at 146. Which is actually VERY awesome because I just spent 3 nights in Bend with DH and ate SAD food for half of the day, every day I was there. So here are the stats so far:
Week 1: 134
Week 2: 133
Week 3: 138 (this was my 3-day binge in Arizona!)
Week 10: 141
Week 14: 143
Week 15: 145 (this is the max I wanted to be by week 18)
Week 17: 146
I am not bringing my scale with me to camp, so whatever I weigh on the morning of Week 17: Day 6 is what I'll put down for weighing at week 18. When I come back, it'll be almost to week 20! I plan to go 100% raw the entire time - it's actually really easy for me to be all raw when I'm around people. Probably a pride thing, LOL! But I think it reminds me that people are watching and it holds me accountable in a way. It's when I'm alone that I do awful - I sit there and eat half a bag of chips & salsa, like last night. =(
I was amazed at the difference in my countenance this trip to Bend. My one hangup on eating raw has always been the yummy food that we eat when going out. It's like something we share, DH & I, and especially eating out is such a treat for me because then I am not the one preparing the meals, which I do all the time at home, day in & day out. When I go on trips I abandon my raw lifestyle completely, like I did in Arizona - except for meat, that is.
This time it was different! I brought along my mangos, apples, bananas, and greens - and made a nice blender full of green smoothie every morning. Oh, but before that I have been having young coconuts - I usually have one each morning, sometimes two. So that's what I ate for the first half of the day, then I would have a late lunch around 3pm - usually veggie sandwich, then late dinner around 8pm. I had salmon/rice/salad/rolls twice, and soup/sandwiches and once a veggie pizza. For the most part, I found the food to taste really good, although some of it wasn't what I thought it was, like the pasta. That was kind of gross. I always ate really late at night, and I had ice-cream twice. It was fine when I ate it, but every night I had the worst problem with being stuffed up! I was coughing and choking up phlegm and had to breath through my mouth most of the time - and slept awful. BUT I did have a good time! Laid in the sun twice for a couple of hours, reading the raw books I'd brought along. Really inspiring, definitely.

I wanted to log on here for future pregnancies sake - my weight gain on a 90% raw diet (what it has been so far, anyway). I'll keep a log each time I weigh in at the start of each week. It's sketchy from the past; I wasn't keeping track, and had to go through the posts and dig out what info I could about what I weighed at the time:

Week 15: Day 4
Wow, I've had a very rocky past few days! I haven't eaten that much crappy food in a long time. I guess it goes in stages. I got to six days of 100% raw, and late the 6th night I went grocery shopping and was hungry towards the end. The goodies I'd bought for summer camp later this month ended up going into my mouth instead of into the totes for later.
So today, right now, I'm going on a 7-day green smoothie "Fast". It's not really a fast, because fasting doesn't consist of food and this pretty much *is* food - it's just blended food. I'm hoping that this will jumpstart me back into 100% raw because I *really* want to be completely raw during summer camp because that is when I feel my best. I can't afford to be feeling down emotionally from the processed foods/sugar and also lethargic with lack of energy - not when I'm chasing 5 kiddos around all day! Each day is going to be full & brimming with activities, and I am going to need to be completely whole to keep up with it. We've never spent the night there before, not for two solid weeks especially, so the lack of sleep is also going to be something that I will need help with - and I know raw can do that.
So starting right now, 5pm on Thursday the 14th, I'm only taking in green smoothies. I hope this will cure my cravings - it always helps ALOT when I've taken in at least 1lb of greens per day, in the past. I hope to get maybe 1.5 - 2 lbs per day during this fast. Today I bought some Kelp flakes (or was it dulse?) and also some spirulina so I'll be taking 1 T. each of those in my smoothies per day. I'm very curious to see how the seaweed affects me; I've heard alot of good things about it. I'm also hoping it'll help me get down to 140lbs - that's where I would LOVE to be at 16 weeks pregnant with only a weight gain of 6lbs. I weighed in this morning at 145 - which is the most I've weighed this pregnancy, and the max I wanted to weigh by July 1st. I know it's from the chips, ice-cream, granola bars, vegan cooked food I've been eating. So the smoothies should be a good cleanser to get all that out of my system.
I'm not going to be able to give up my ice-cold coconut milk & meat in the morning, though. It's become a habit for me and I absolutely love it, straight out of the coconut. I could put it in my smoothie but I don't like it as much when it's mixed with other things. So that'll jumpstart my day after I've done my oil pulling & brushed my teeth - then on to smoothies until the end of the day when I do oil pulling/brush teeth again. I love having a goal that is attainable - it lifts my spirits and gives me a quicker step!
Also - I've been oil pulling for 1 1/2 days now. You can read about it here:
http://www.earthclinic.com/Remedies/oil_pulling.html
Very interesting. So far I have seen NO effects of it whatsoever - I did coconut oil yesterday morning, and then did olive oil last night & this morning. It's kind of gross, but not too bad - even with the natural gag reflex I get when I'm pregnant, I can totally handle it. I hope the benefits start showing themselves - whiter, stronger teeth & gums, softer skin, no more bumps on my arms. We'll see.
I'm bummed that something is wrong with the ball of my foot. I don't know what it is, but it started hurting a few days ago, and then yesterday morning about 1 mile into my 4-mile walk it starter really hurting. It feels like I'm stepping on a vein or something when I walk. Like there's some kind of bur or some weird thing that is getting irritated whenever I step! Even walking around the house - it's not bad at all just doing chores, but I can still feel it. I'm going to lay off walking tomorrow and see how it feels for a Saturday morning walk. I really don't want to give up walking, I really enjoy it!!! And it makes me feel like I'm doing something for exercise.
Yum, I just drank my first smoothie. The ingredients were:
22oz. water
1 whole small pineapple (about 2 cups)
1 small bunch of spinach (about 1/3 lb)
1 red delicious apple
1 banana
1 T. spirulina
6 ice cubes
That's it! It was really good and smooth - just like a milkshake only no milk, of course! It makes about 3 20-oz. cups worth, and drinking one of those 20oz. cups fills me up. Nice to grab & run when I'm going somewhere too - I love taking it with me because I can always discretely sip on it and no-one knows it's not water. =)

Week 15: Day 1
Wow, week 15 already! Very cool - I'm about 1/3 of the way there now! And I am SO happy to say that I am on my 6th day of 100% raw. Overall I feel really good. The last cooked thing I ate was an entire loaf of french bread with cheddar cheese slices. That really put me down for the rest of the day, I was on the couch with a really awful feeling in my stomach. Not like a stomach-ache, really, just more like every cell in my body was trying to get through this raunchy stuff I'd just put into my body.
I'm in LOVE with baby Thai coconuts! I'm so happy about this, because last time I went raw I tried several times to like the water & milk, but I just couldn't down it. I shuddered when I drank it, it was that bad. I ended up throwing away 4-5 of them in the end. But now when I'm walking in the morning, I can't wait to get home & drink an ice-cold glass of the water (I drink it straight out of the coconut with a straw; kind of cool) and then scrape out the yummy meat. Soon I hope to dehydrate some a little bit - the more chewy it is, the more I like it. I've also heard that you can make wraps out of dehydrated coconut meat - I just need to stop eating it long enough to save some to dehydrate!
But I think I've fixed that problem - I've been really wanting to get Marie off of her milk-based formula (she's 13 mo) - I just shudder at the thought of what I'm giving her! But I can't make my life too complicated or I'll just go nuts - and the only other alternative I could think of was raw goat's milk. Super expensive and hard to get. Coconut water is THE superior liquid for babies - it's the closest thing to a mother's breastmilk, and is according to this article, "...a natural isotonic beverage, with the same level of electrolytic balance as we have in our blood. It's the fluid of life, so to speak."
http://www.living-foods.com/articles/coconutwater.html
She also loves the meat and will stand by me while I'm eating it, begging for a spoonful. Some of them are more chewy, but others are more the consistency of a barely cooked egg white - kind of like jelly. They're $1.29 each at my local Asian Market, and I found out today that if I buy a case of 9, they'll give me 10% off. So that makes them about $1.16 each, not bad. The one I emptied today to give her yielded about 10oz. of water and I gave her a full bottle of 8oz. Yum!
I had the most awful day yesterday. The day before that, my 4th day raw, I felt so good! Mostly I had like this inner peace and things the kids did didn't affect me very much. I could easily, calmly, deal with stressful situations (like all of them crying at once, yelling at each other, whatever) and I just felt, overall, good.
Yesterday was like the exact opposite. Everything they did just got on my nerves and I had no energy or desire to do ANYTHING - so the house basically went downhill. I was feeling so burned out on taking care of them all myself, day in & day out - DH has been basically working two jobs - one of them is his real job, the other volunteering at our church fundraisers & work parties to build new cabins on the church property. I finally ended the day by sending DH & the three older ones (I just couldn't handle the bickering & whining anymore!) to church and watching a movie with my 3 year old while 13mo old played at our feet. We all went to bed around 9:00 and I was glad to get the day over with.
Today has been much better, but I've always purposed in my heart that it IS going to be better. I'm not going to let myself get into a pity party and feel sorry for my lot in life. Because that is so utterly ridiculous; there are friends & family ALL AROUND me with the most horrific situations, and I have one simple task, to take care of my family. I don't really have any worries right now - and it's my own fault if my life seems dull & boring. It's up to ME to change and I am determined to do that. I've prayed alot and I know God knows this is my desire, and soon enough it'll look bright & cheerful again.
One thing I noticed that is a DRAMATIC difference from before, is I absolutely craved NO cooked food yesterday. That is my track record 100% - when I start feeling down, depressed, sorry for myself, my life sucks, etc - I go straight to my favorite cooked food. Yesterday I could have easily thrown the kids in the car and gotten my favorite takeout, the things that have been vices to me before and gotten me off track. But I didn't! It's helped that I've had lots of yummy things around - I had strawberry shortcake, the most delicious veggie pizza, cherries, sunflower seeds, green smoothie, coconut water/milk, peaches. I've experienced also that green smoothies (3/4 to 1lb of greens per day) seem to really make a difference with the cravings so I've been trying to have one of those per day. I think it really helps - it's gotten me to 6 days, anyway!

Week 14: Day 5
Journaling my progress on here makes me realize how fast time really does go, every time I write down the date. It's very cool - actually one of the secrets to making your pregnancy go by fast is to have little children around, LOL! You just get so busy that you don't have time to sit there and realize how sloooooowly the baby does grow.
So my ultrasound is on July 3rd, and we'll find out what the sex is if the baby is in the right position. I'm really hoping for a boy, since it's been 5 years since I had a boy - but a little girl would be absolutely adorable too, especially since Marie & this baby will be just 18 months apart.
As far as raw goes, I have not made it past 3 days of 100% raw in a couple of months. But I think this time is going to be different. I'm pretty determined - and the main key is that I've been making sure that I have a TON of yummy fruits around me. I've been well stocked with cherries, watermelon, peaches, strawberries, apples, bananas - and I've also been making some yummy recipes. I made some raw herbed pizza crust that in the dehydrater turned into crackers, it was really crispy so I made some guacamole and ate that yesterday on the crackers with a cucumber in the middle. VERY good!
I also made some sundried herbed tomato bread that turned out superb - it's in my fridge right now, waiting for me to make a scrumptious sandwich. Usually I put some kind of sauce like marinara or raw ketchup/mayo on there, and add tomato, avocado, alfalfa sprouts (they're growing in a pantyhose sock hanging in my kitchen right now, LOL!), cucumber, peppers, onion, lettuce, and I think that's it usually. Oh yes, I sprinkle with dry mustard and salt/pepper sometimes, and maybe a little italian or mexican seasoning. It's so yummy, I feel full afterwards, yet light - not heavy and "I want to take a nap" kind of feeling. So it's nice to have that sitting in my fridge for if & when I want it.
I've been walking 4 miles faithfully at least every other morning, if not every morning. This week I went on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday - and I definitely will go tomorrow & Sunday because I don't have to get up so early. My goal is at least 5 days a week. I was reading that walking is one of the most effective ways to exercise because people are more consistent with walking than any other form of exercise. It's easy to do because while you do get winded, it's not an unpleasant feeling at all. I've never had a form of exercise be so fun for me before. But part of me wonders: do I have more energy because of eating raw? I never thought walking 4 miles would come easily to me. I might even up it to 4.5 or 5 depending on how things go - it's just that it takes longer to walk a longer distance, and as it is I have to get up at 5:15 to make it back in time for Bret to leave for work at 6:30. Amazingly, I find that I'm more tired on the days that I "sleep in" until 7:50 and don't walk. So maybe there is something to exercising in the morning that makes you have more energy throughout the day?!
I absolutely love it, and look forward to it so much! As hard as it can be to get up in the morning sometimes, as I stumble outside half asleep and am greeted by the crisp, cool air with the morning sun peeking up from the field....I just breath and am SO thankful for everything in my life. I bought two 1.5 hand weights and I carry those when I walk. Towards the end of my walk I do 50 reps each of bicep curls, hammer curls, and tricep curls. I also try to walk with my elbows away from my body - I'm really feeling it in my arms this morning (first time I tried that was this morning). I love the look of toned arms - if I can just get rid of the flab to show the tone, LOL!
I've brought my ipod along and it makes it go by SO fast - I listen mostly to Dave Ramsey's talk show on getting out of debt. It's SO inspiring and makes me all the more determined to put every single spare penny we have towards paying off our debts. We'll be debt free, except the mortgage, in June of 2008!
I weighed myself this morning and I'm at 143. My goal is to weigh no more than 145 by July 1st - and I think I'm going to make it, especially if I stay faithful to raw. I might even lose a few pounds! I have this slab of back fat (sounds gross, but that's what it is - a big hunk of fat!) like love handles, only on my lower back near my waist. SO annoying, it does not look good with a little belly, LOL! I'm hoping that goes away, but obviously, I'm going to take any good results that come my way and be thankful for them.
Oh yes! I wanted to share - Jinjee is the one who got me to decide to go raw, especially while pregnant. She shared some of her pregnant pictures at 8 months on her blog and I must say, what an inspiration.

I'm not going to set myself up for disappointment by thinking I'm going to look like her when I'm 8 months pregnant, LOL, but it's something that really gives me a vision for how I can be if I continue eating raw. She hikes ALL the time - and I want that energy too! How much fun we could have if mommy had lots of energy. They say when you've been 100% raw for some time that your body is practically begging you to expel the energy you have, so you start doing even more physical activities because, well, you actually FEEL like it. That'd be so awesome!
So far, right now, I've been feeling really tired. Duh, I'm pregnant, but I'm hoping that does go away. I honestly don't feel pregnant at all, but that's probably because it kind of takes a big belly to actually look down and go oh, yeah, I'm pregnant. Right now I am in the lovely overweight-looking stage.
